Memorial Day is a day our nation turns to honor and remember those who have given their lives for our freedom. Having been raised in military communities (my parents have served with Cadence International, formerly Overseas Christian Servicemen's Centers or OCSC, for 38 years) I've seen some of the heartache behind the sacrifices intimately. There are no words to adequately express "thank you" fully enough for the price paid daily for my ongoing freedom!
While these men, women and their families sacrifice much, sometimes paying with their very lives, an even greater freedom has been hard-fought for me as well. I cannot let this weekend pass without also remembering the One who willingly gave His life that I might know True Freedom. "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins" (1 John 4:10, NIV).
